Welcome to the Nimbus Publishing & Vagrant Press submissions page.

Nimbus Publishing and its adult fiction imprint, Vagrant Press, is the largest English-language publisher on Canada's east coast. We are located in Kjipuktuk, Mi'kma'ki, on the ancestral territory of the Mi'kmaq.

Please note that submissions* are open from December 1, 2025 at 12:00 a.m., closing December 31 at 11:59 p.m.

Locally, nationally and internationally, Nimbus is best known and widely recognized as the premier publisher of books about Atlantic Canada. Our list is wonderfully diverse, with many titles that have found success in an incredibly competitive marketplace.

Several of our books have been nominated for or received prominent awards, including the Governor General's Award, National Business Book Award, the Marilynn Baillie Award, the Geoffrey Bilson Award, Hackmatack Award, and many more.

We currently publish over forty books a year, and they usually fall into one or more of these categories: biography, art, history, science and nature, political and social issues, folklore, children’s fiction and non-fiction, sports, guidebooks, cookbooks, and photographic books. We publish fiction for adults under the Vagrant Press imprint. Nimbus does not publish in the following sub-genres: self-help, religion, philosophy, drama, erotica.

*PLEASE NOTE: for this submissions period, we are not reviewing the following:

Baby board books, ages 0–3, and children’s picture books (fiction and non-fiction), ages 3–7

Adult fiction (our Vagrant submissions will open in the New Year. Keep an eye on social media)

Our editorial wishlist for adult non-fiction:

  • Socially relevant, fresh takes on history
  • Stories that haven’t been told before. New perspectives, especially from historically overlooked and underpublished communities
  • Themes of social justice
  • Thoughtful, well researched, sensitively told true crime
  • Contemporary 2SLGBTQI+, Acadian, African Canadian, Disabled, Indigenous, Immigrant, Refugee, and New Canadian stories

Our editorial wishlist for children’s books:

Juvenile non-fiction (ages 6–11), middle grade fiction (ages 8–12), and young adult fiction  (ages 12+) that relates to one or more of the following:

  • All of the above, plus:
  • Mysteries
  • Folklore-inspired stories and retellings

Please note: We do not provide printing, writing, or translation services.
